Description |
From the "Barriers Series" (1978-80), exhibited at the TMA in 1980. Construction site with a foundation and a concrete wall. Another building is visible through the window and doorway openings. Skeet McAuley (1951) attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, earning his BA in 1976. Two years later he received his MFA from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. By 1980, McAuley was showing his photographs professionally. He was awarded two National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artists Fellowships, one in 1984 and the second in 1986. In 1988 he received a Polaroid Artist Support Grant: Polaroid Corporation. McAuley describes his art as showing the relationship between the natural environment and consumer-driven cultures. His images are filled with visual clues that express the paradox of such a relationship. In McAuley's Barrier series, blocked views and partitioned spaces are central to the works, but the photographs are more than just straightforward shots of barriers in landscape settings. |
