Description |
A narrative portfolio of twenty lithographs printed on Arches White Cover paper contained in a handmade box with velvet covering; imagery and text; pages are folded to create a book-like layout. Jack Mims (1943) is an American painter known for his prints, paintings, and calligraphy work. Mims' paintings are allegorical, and his images are extremely literate, personal, and dense. They combine primitive mythology - allegorizing the artist as a shaman - with direct autobiographical details, including portraits of friends and descriptions of actual incidents. However, they also borrow from a vast range of historical art, including references to major and minor European artists and tribal cultures around the world. |
