Description |
Collage/mixed media on paper. For artist Derrick White, the process is as important as its resulting outcome. The "magic and mystery of creation" in the moment make the artistic pursuit personally worthwhile. White is content if he can successfully capture the happenstance of the momoent in the work that is ultimately a repository of the accidental. White says, "I am attracted to the unstructured results of actions and the inherent nature of materials, for example, drips of paint or the flow of wood grain." The process is guided, however, by the artistic intent doggedly pursued, "reworking ninety-nine times to get the right effect," but accompanied by a cool little shrug: "sometimes it goes well and sometimes it does not." |
