This photograph is from the portfolio New California Views. Wanda Hammerbeck (1945- Present) is a landscape photographer and participant in the Water in the West collaborative that also included Martin Stupich, Peter Goin, Mark Kleet, etc. From 1969-1971, she was assistant to the Dean of Women at the University of North Carolina. Her photographs are inspired by minimalistic and pop elements from the 1960s. This photograph shows a grassy landscape during the night. Three trees can be seen around the grassy plain, each of varying sizes. The two trees in the background are both tropical contrasting with the tree in the foreground. A white pipe can be seen on the right side of the print, sectioning of the tallest tree. A light source is present off screen, shown by the reflecting light coming from the right side of the photograph. |
