Description |
"Painting Number 8" is one of a series of paintings done by Ed Blackburn in which the subjects are photographic stills from movies. In this painting, Blackburn has taken an image from a 1960's movie starring Gregory Peck. Blackburn plays the initial attraction of the image against the impersonal character of the information it contains. Ed Blackburn (1940-2022), born in Amarillo, Texas, was primarily known as a painter, but he also worked as a printmaker, writer, poet, musician, and filmmaker. Blackburn was associated with the photorealism and pop art movements, and his work frequently employed images from various types of popular media (including many pieces which draw on film stills), (but) overall his work defies categorization. He produced paintings based on biblical themes, which became some of his most significant works. |
