Description |
This is a self-portrait of Donald S. Vogel. In this painting you see the lush background with some light on some plants. In the front you have him tenderly tightening a vine or a loose branch onto the branch of the other leaves. The middle foreground shows some yellow with orange, could be mulch or gravel. Mr. Vogel evokes a tender look towards the plant, as his facial expression shows the fragility of his age. Although Donald S. Vogel (1917-2004) is known for founding what is currently the longest lived fine art gallery in Texas, if asked, he would always say that he was a painter. His paintings, Post-Impressionistic in style, were intended to uplift. Few who acquire a Vogel painting are satisfied with only one. During the I940's he gained recognition in the art community by promoting the work of fellow artists and winning coveted purchase awards and prizes in the Texas General and Allied Arts Exhibitions for his own paintings. |
