Description |
This photograph is from the portfolio New California Views. Graham Howe (1950- Present) is an Australian curator, artist, and photo-historian. Howe was the founding director of the Australian Centre of Photography and created the Curatorial Assistance Inc, a company specializing in art and museum services. His art focuses on investigating the relationship between seeing objects the way that they are and perceiving them in new and interesting ways. He was inspired by other photographers such as Bruce Nauman, Mel Bouchner, and William Wegman. This photo displays a large field of gravel with four sticks inserted into the ground. A large black "x" is across the picture plane while a white diamond shape overlaps each line created by the "x". The wooden sticks go in and out of the black and white lines. A cast shadow is present behind each stick, indicating that the light source is coming from the left. The three sticks on the left side of the photo are tiled into the ground while the solo stick on the right side of the photo is standing vertically. This photo is in black and white. |
