Description |
This painting shows Rockwell in his studio in Arlington, Vermont following the disastrous fire of 1943 and prior to his move to Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 1953, and was retained by the artist up until his death. The quality of the work is very high and blends easily into Rockwell's own style. Worthman is known primarily as a Texas artist who spent most of his career as a portrait and landscape painter in Houston from 1948 until his death. In Houston he painted portraits of John and Robert Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, astronaut Alan Shepherd and Texas governors John Connally and Price Daniel. In addition to his portrait paintings, Worthman was a prolific muralist completing over 50 commissions in public and private institutions in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Florida and Colorado. He was accepted into the National Association of Mural Painters and taught art in Albany, New York and Houston. The Smithsonian Institute Archives of American Art have put some of his sketches onto microfiche, along with examples of his works and portrait art. |
