Color lithograph on German etching paper (series) 57 of 61 in Progressive Proof Series Wayne Kimball (1943) is a printmaker and professor of the fine arts. Kimball's artworks are all done using the lithograph printing process due to the media's intense color combinations, wash-like textures, and crayon tones. His art is small in size allowing him to work more intimately with his pieces and include intricate details, some with symbolic meaning. Kimball's artworks are meant to be seen with the viewer in mind and thus are devoid of concrete ideas, focusing more on conceptual thought. He leaves his work open-ended so that the viewer can interpret the meaning behind the work themselves. His work is influenced by Northern Renaissance paintings, Islamic and Indian structures, and Medieval imagery. This print is a textural layer for "A Portrayal of Its Maker (series of 61 prints)". The upper half of a frame boarding a room is colored in by a dark gray. The lower half of the frame is slightly lighter in tone and does not connect fully on the right side. In the center of the frame near the top of the print, small instance of leafs are shown breaking up the frame's boarder. White detailing is displayed on the lower half of the frame, showcasing linework within the arrowhead and outside boarder of the print. |
