Globular terra-cotta pot with a painted image of 8 fish all hanging from seperate lines that converge into one line. The color palette of the pot is dark green, with two different shades of orange to differentiate the fish from the darker orange background. Decorated with 2 disks front and back, each with fish attached to a stringer. Capula, Michoacan Mexico Pedro Ruiz Martinez is a Mexican potter, who works in Capula, Michoacán with his wife Odilia Pineda. Capula is noted for its ceramics distinguished by having its designs painted on with small dots in a technique called “punteaje. Martinez's work is noted not only for its precise punteaje, but also the use of “petatillo”, the use of fine crosshatching used to fill in background space, normally associated with Jalisco pottery. Martinez and his wife were named "grand masters" by the Fomento Cultural Banamex in 2001. |
