Description |
54 of 61 in Progressive Proof Series Wayne Kimball (1943) is a printmaker and professor of the fine arts. Kimball's artworks are all done using the lithograph printing process due to the media's intense color combinations, wash-like textures, and crayon tones. His art is small in size allowing him to work more intimately with his pieces and include intricate details, some with symbolic meaning. Kimball's artworks are meant to be seen with the viewer in mind and thus are devoid of concrete ideas, focusing more on conceptual thought. He leaves his work open-ended so that the viewer can interpret the meaning behind the work themselves. His work is influenced by Northern Renaissance paintings, Islamic and Indian structures, and Medieval imagery. This print is a textural layer for "A Portrayal of Its Maker (series of 61 prints)". A gray shading is present through this artwork highlight details on both a tiger rug and leafy plant. Shifts between dark and light tones show depth and texture alike. A white outline interrupts the tiger's texture. Small instances of shading can be seen underneath the tiger rug as well, indicting a sense of placement within a space. The rest of the room the two objects are in is devoid of color. |
