Description |
"Living Room " is an oil painting that was a gift to the TMA by Mr. & Mrs. Montgomery, they are the parents of Mr. Bill Montgomery the artist. The painting is an oil painting that has its subject, a formally dressed man seated in a chair next to a reading table with a lamp. This tableau is situated in a weeded field containing several rows of abandoned cars. Decrepit billboards and manufacturing plants appear in the background. "Living Room" depicts a residue and decay of western material culture in the midst of nature's relentless rejuvenation. This painting is 1 of a series of 2. William (Bill) Montgomery (1953) was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. While studying at the Academia di Belle Arti de Perugia in Italy, Montgomery developed an interest in classical European painting which had a major influence on both his painting technique as well has his approach to subject matter. A life long fascination with nature is a continuing influence and his current work explores animals and their environments, particularly their convergence with civilization. |
